Was thinking the other day how awesome E3M1 music is...and decided I was bored tonite and broke out my FL Studio again...
spent almost 85 minutes trying to get it to sound close to the original. Hopefully its good to y'all
CHEX QUEST 3 E3M1v1 (http://www.mediafire.com/?qzdqmyi1yud)
CHEX QUEST E3M1v2 (http://www.mediafire.com/?qfmwdjhtkqd)
(^thanks to ZeldaGamer00 for help on tweaking the sound)
CHEX QUEST E3M3v1 (http://www.mediafire.com/?txlmnmgzt4i)
CHEX QUEST E3M3v2 (http://www.mediafire.com/?zywzmnawkgx)
Crits and Complements, plz.
If I was making this, I would put my name, and maybe Benson's, in the ID3 tags. Not a real issue, just a thought. ;)
Nice work!
Good job! I like it! :)
I like the second version.
comparing it to the actual MIDI, theres a good deal of lag in the notes. Mostly due to the way midi handles them. Its a good version, but it has nothing on the MIDI (at least, when using XG synth)
How did you do this?
Using FL Studio (currently 6, need to update to 7), I open the MIDI file and start finding synths that sound like the instruments. I use Sytrus (best sounding one, though its not free, i use the demo, which is why what you hear is what you get, no tweaking), and take preset instruments and tweak them to fit the need. I then save the drum track and load up sampled drum sounds and assign them to the keys. I test it, and in this case got some input before rendering the final, and then volia.
Sweetness! I wish I had FL Studio...oh, the possibilities.
Also, FL Studio 8 is out...if you bought FL Studio online you get free lifetime updates, or $29 for lifetime updates from the box, apparently.
i bought the box, and got one free update...so i have a 7 license.
Is there any way to extract MIDI's or ogg's from a wad?
yes...XWE does it. and lucky for me, you didn't need to convert them from MUS to MIDI (something i've yet to figure out)
XWE says it's unknown
Say, since you have FL Studio, you need to do something with FL-Chan! ;D
*dodges flying fruit*
sorry GM...i'm not a pro at doing it, i just opened chex3.wad, found the file, saved it as E3M1.mid and it worked.
and xbolt, i had experimented with that when i had FL7 before resetting the computer...it was cool, but I couldn't stand it after awhile...
I'm trying to extract some music from Legendary and Epic CTF wads.....
some of those are .IT from Impulse Tracker. basically MIDI, but not...idk if you can convert those.
That's awesome! I don't have XG softsynth (><) but that sounds amazing to me!
Are you serious, the original in XG sounds BETTER than this? I can't imagine. Keep making this kind of stuff, you've got skill in this.
well, i played it, and it really defines the song well. all my instruments are kinda soft (just cuz the instruments aren't designed for harsh leads), but the MIDI has a deep back bone defined by the instruments...
also, this kinda isn't hard...its like taking a piano player and seating him at a synth set to a square lead. same music, different instrument.
but i was gonna ask you guys: should I continue? Episode 2 gave me some trouble, so what about E3? should I try and complete the series?
I'd definitely like to hear an E3M3 remix, personally
Yes, I agree. E3M3 would be very nice.
And 75, you really should get XG SoftSynth. It's a free driver for your PC to improve MIDI file sounds. I'll send ya a link if you want it.
And GM...hm, I did it easily. I just clicked on the music, extracted it somehow, and it worked...
In the Legendary wads, the music is a few different formats. MUS, MIDI, IT, OGG, and another one i think..
but i'll work on an E3M3 one today
DOUBLE POST OF EPIC (merge if possible)
I have completed my E3M3 conversion in 2 styles (both not blasting, but with a different end synth. HUGE DIFFERENCE)
CQ mp3's!! DO WANT!! *downloads*
*EDIT* This sounds awesome Atarian. Me likey a lot. very futuristic sounding (especially E3M3)
My connection just went at 4 MB/s, so I just downloaded each MP3 in one second! :o
EDIT: Both...E3M3s....sound the same...
The ends are different. One is high, the other is low.
I'll take another look.

I tried it, but vista hates it, unfortunately.
yeah...the original XG softsynth was for 9x and 2000, then someone hacked it for XP, but IDK how it works on vista...apparently it doesn't.
Maybe there is another software synthesizer. The normal wavetable is fail. you can somehow get soundfonts as midi drivers.
This makes me want to try playing the electric guitar part on real guitar...
hehe, if you want, i'll crack open the midi and get you some notes.

I've done it. It's really fun. :)
I've got my own midi crackers.
I've also learned E1M1 and E1M5 (after listening to the Chex Quest Hero videos), but I haven't gotten around to uploading them...
Plz to upload to CQ gallery?
What Chex Quest Gallery? If you're talking about my old website that got left in the dustpan for awhile, then I've already done that. :P If you're talking about the public Chex Quest Fan Forums gallery, then that's really not up my department.
Good MP3s, by the way. I like the E3M3 ones better. You should make more of these. ;)

He means the Downloads section on the CQFF. ;)
Yeah, I kind of figured that. :P
It's one of those "hey, ya never know" situations.
