I find that there's a lack of casual discussion in General Chex Quest Discussion. Everything is a support question, a request, or something. So, here's something for you music people out there. What is your favorite MIDI from the Chex Quest series? My personal vote goes to E3M1.

Agreeded, E3M1's music pwned.
E3M1 was awesome, but I loved E3M3's music the best! ^^
My favorite's in order are.
-E3M3
-E1M4
-E3M1
-E2M4
E3M1. No contest.
My favorite is the Sewers, followed by the Museum and Laboratory.

QFT.
E2M5, E3M1, E1M4
My favorite of the classics is E2M3: Museum. That slide synth PWN'D.
But out of the new ones, E3M1-3 are awesome.
I would like the stolen CQ3's E1M3, but they did Axel F all wrong. I think they did it in the wrong key as well...
I gotta go with E3M1. The mood of the song fits perfectly with the level and its story. ^_^ It starts out calm and foreboding, but then quickly jumps into an intense score that just screams at the player "this is the final mission against the flemoids. Use everything you've learned so far and give them your best shot!"
Aside from that, another personal favorite is E1M1, cause, y'know, it's the first song of the game. xD E1M5 also did its job very well at setting the mood for the caverns.
If Strifes composition he made makes it in, I'd vote e3m4.
So, you're essentially waiting for a new poll option to appear before you vote? :P
Meh, I voted Axel F, but the real thing. Off-key is not very good.
Besides that, I say E3M1.
I put those stolen CQ3 musics up as joke choices.... ;D ;D ;D
D'oh! /facepalm XD

Joke choices? Some of those songs are really good; I just don't consider them Chex Quest songs.
I like the E2M5 music the best. Don't ask me why; it just is. ;D
I say E1M1, just because I relate that music to the game more than any of the other music. While I agree that there is probably music I like better on the list, there's nothing that says Chex Quest to me more than that track. :D

I was just jokin' 'round. XD But in all seriousness, Chex Quest 3 (stolen) is technically a fan project, like the others here. Nevertheless, Chex Quest 3 (stolen) just has a bit of history in the community as the only sequel to Chex Quest 2 for the longest time. The older members here, including me, can relate to seeking for it and playing it like it was the real thing, so I decided to include it based on that.
I like E3M3 & E3M1, but they're both really good.
E3M3 won out, though. It uses a style of music you don't hear very much, and it REALLY fits the mood
don't agree? Picture this.
Super slimey, you just entered that part near the end with the maze. There's TWO super cyclopti flying about. You rush up and send them back, but then they come back while you're in the maze, so you're trying to dodge around frantically finding the key while dodging their nearly constant shots, at the same time pummeling all the commonus and bipedicus that respawn
That's pretty intense. If I knew how to upload a video of that I would like to.

A video would be awesome. I really would like to record my own speedrun of Episode 3 on Super Slimey in the future. ^_^ It's one of the most intense gaming experiences i've played through, and it would be sweet to show it to the rest of the world.

FRAPS.
Hahaha! I just replaced the E1M1 music with Willie Nelson! Now as I zorch flemoids, I can hear "On the Road Again!" XD (http://www.discoverynet.com/~ajsnead/alpcond/alpha_15/midi/onroad_30.mid)
Chukker has added songs for E3M4 and E3M5, so they can now be included in the list. ^_^
Less than three days after Manny starts the thread, it's outdated. XD
The poll has been updated. I have changed my personal vote to D_3M5. So epic.
***A NOTICE TO CHEXCOMMANDER***
Your vote shifted to CQ3 stolen D_E1M1 because of the reordering, so you'll have to remove your vote and vote again for Axel F. :P
It's hard to choose between E3M1 and E3M5 now, so I've decided to pick E3M5.
Changed. I find E3M5 even more enticing than Axel F (at least, a poor version anyways XD).
woah, new musics? >< I gotta redownload and play it now, dont I?
BTW, does anyone even REMOTELY like the Museum music? It was my favorite track since I first played it.
But E3M1 is just behind it...
I thought Museum was quite good, but it's been a while since I played the original levels.

I think it does the job, but it's not one of my personal favorites. That type of music doesn't quite appeal to me, though it's more a thing of personal taste.

I do. As I said, it's my second favorite track.
Aww, thanks for the votes guys. ^_^
My favorite is still E3M1 for two reasons. One, it still does the best job of setting the mood of the whole episode, in my opinion, and two, I would feel really weird about voting for myself. xD;;
Why don't we have the TNCQ songs on here? some of those were really awesome!
Hmm, I forget who made those....it might've been Strife, it might have been some DooM II stuff (I doubt it) or something else....I don't remember.
Hee hee, if I included music from every fan-made game, the list would be way to cumbersome. :P

I realize TUCQ is a major mod, but how would we know what to call the music?
Alot of it was Strife's older stuff, AFAIK.
I dont remember any of Doom II's music...Xbolt used Doom music, but to me it never felt right. Except for 1 or 2 levels.
a lot of doom music is really lousy. A few really good tracks a game, but a lot of them aren't anything special
Unless you guys are talking about the song Strife made for it, TUCQ didn't have its own music.

Must... resist.... It is... hard....
Guys, guys, take a few steps back and breathe.
TUCQ had no original music. The song that I composed for its intermission sequences, even though it was accepted by Boingo, was never used. As it stands right now, I feel that the poll encompasses all of the songs that it should. None of my other songs should count.
Full agreement. Like I said, putting music from all Chex Quest mods would bloat the list too much, and TUCQ never had any new music, like ChexCommander pointed out.
I believe Replica's the one who pointed it out. You're also reading my post wrong, I was enlightening you guys, not yelling at you. BTW Why is the stolen CQ3 in here? Can't we all just forget about it...
What do you guys think? Should I pull the Chex Quest 3 (stolen) music or keep it?
Keep it as a joke. I want to see who actually votes on it, if any. (heh, heh...)
And we're not gonna forget about it. It was a fan-made mod, like many of the Fan Projects here, except they ripped off quite a few things in the process of making it. It's still rather a fun mod to play, in my opinion.
My top 5 Favorite Songs are:
1. E1M4
2. E2M4
3. E1M3
4. E2M1
5. E3M1
I thought Arboretum's Music was the best (almost tieing with E2M4) - it matches the suspense at the end of the 1st episode and it sets the mood for the rest of the of the episode. Some others I like are E1M1, E2M2, and E1M5.
in no particular order I liked:
E1M5
E2M2
E2M3
E2M5
and basically all the CQ3 music.

Really? I found the arboretum's music rather easy-going. I found E1M1 rather futuristic or space sounding. My favorite from the first two episodes was probably E2M3
E2M1 reminds me of the breakfast sandwiches I used to eat in elementary school (WHOA was CQ really that old?? [Cue old fart flashback])
i cant vote on this. sure, i like some o he music better than others, but im not one 4 favorites.
That was one single day away from a bump. One day.
I like E1M5 regular and the remix. I think I like the remix better. I also like pretty much all CQ1, but also like the Sewer Systems... there are probably more taht I don't remember...

I know. I was merely commenting that this is quite an old topic.
I was listening to some CQ Music today....
Axel F (the stolen CQ3 E1M3, also known as "COMMAND") actually WAS in the wrong key. I had to transpose it up a step in Anvil.
Also, the WINCQ3 music is "Staying Alive." Ha. That's clever. ;D
Zorchin' Alive should be in there too...lol
All time favorites:
E3M1
E3M5
E2M5
E1M1
I like all the CQ1 and 2 music. I voted for D_INTER though as it has always been up there on my favorites since I was little, and nobody else voted for it. I love that tune, it is great. So much compositional detail.
AGGGGH!!! I DIDN'T REALIZE THERE WERE D_INTRO, D_INTER, & D_VICTOR!!!
I like inter and victor, too.
That is a hard question to answer, as I like all of them. I have managed to download the songs for the first two games, but I have not found the ones for the third one. Does anyone know where I may be able to obtain a copy of them (primarily the levels, as I believe that the intro, victory, and intermission somgs are the same as those used in the first two episodes)? If I can get them, the suite would then be complete! Woo hoo
As for the comment about the first level in the first episode sounding like space, that would probably because I believe that the level is the landing pad or something to that effect. I think that I read that somewhere, but I do not recall exactly where. The first map for the second episode is the spaceport, but I do not remember what the name of that one is.
It would also be slightly longer than 560 patterns. Perhaps 620 or 650
The black text field looks nice to.

I actually have the Stolen CQ3 E1M3 "Axel F" song in midi from some other old computer game, "Math Quiz" (it also has a lot of other songs heard elsewhere)
That is interesting, but those are not quite what I am looking for. I would prefer songs like these (http://www.vgmpf.com/Game.php?Id=ChexQuest-DOS), but Chex Quest 3's music instead of Chex Quest 1's or Chex Quest 2's. That site only contains the music from the first two episodes. Oggs like those of the Chex Quest 3 music is what I am looking for. I listened to the midis and they sound nice, but not quite like the versions that I have. That was especially noticeable with the cinema's starting notes, which were faster in the midi than in the ogg. In addition, the ogg files have a fade effect toward the end of the song, which is cool sounding, but the midis do not contain that either.

What you need to realize is that the MIDI files ARE the originals. Someone who made the OGG probably just converted the MIDIs in some form, edited them a little, added a fade, etc. For the original music, that link I gave you is your best bet. I don't even know how reliable that website that you linked to is.
Ah, thanks for the info. I was unaware of that. I guess then that I may have to open them in Winamp (provided that it opens midi sequences) and convert them into wave files, as Modplug Tracker does not handle them exactly right. Perhaps I am missing a plug-in or something, but I generally do not worry about those. I think that I will be redoing a few songs now and deleting a few files!

For conversion, I believe Audacity can convert MIDIs to WAVs and MP3s. It just can't play them inside the program.
