Hey Lucius...You still doing the Hi-Res textures for GZDooM? I would like some more, please... And could you try your hand at the sprites? Especially the player and HUD zorcher sprites...I haven't been able to get the pictures off the old board, so could someone post all the good ones here?
Hmm, it seems Lucius does not want to tell us about the textures... What do we do now?
I'm sorry. I've been gone the whole weekend. I've made another texture for the bay doors. I guess I'll show it soon. Boingo said he'd work on a list for me over a week ago but I haven't heard from him since.
yeah...now people seem dead..
but what about the sprites? just one?
What about ZorchMatch? D:
I dunno about sprites but I know I can definitely do textures. I hope boingo can make that list for me soon.
As far as zorchmatch goes, that will be easier for me once the gzdoom conversion comes out. I suppose I can work on it in the mean time though. I just don't have a whole lot of time on my hands now.
Heres an UPDATE:
This is the final version of the blue wall. It looks fine and great in game.
OOH!!! I like very much. About the sprites though, can't you just run them through the same filters? You don't really have to hand edit them, just stretch them and soften them...I think.
I don't know. Maybe. That's kind of a lot of work for me though. I guess I can try but there are many sprites.
Just, like, the basic Chex Warior rotation (not the full walking animation, just a rotation) and some of the hud zorchers
Lucuis, what "Filters" do you put them through?
I don't really put them "through" many filters so to speak. I do use filters in photoshop, but it is all in layers and creating overlays and stuff. Basically here's what I do.
- Resize texture to 512x512 pixels
- Apply median filter if needed
- smudge the general color shapes and directions of the textures
- break the texture down into individual shapes and make layers for each shape(ex: panel, keypad, molding, rivets, texts)
- use dodge and burn tools to create shadow
- add monochromatic noise and add depth/bump mapping
- create overlays to create texture feeling (ex the ORGWALL)
- add contrast so that the texture isnt just a solid plain color
- use some blending modes to add contours
...
So he's basically saying that it's long to convert a texture. So Lucius, are you able to make hi-res sprites? Oh, and I'd really like to see a hi-res texture of the door02 and such. Can these be used in say Legacy or GZDoom as is?
gzdoom, not legacy. And I already made door02:
I get chills when I see that stuff...It looks so fraggin real!
Whoa... THAT LOOKS FRAGGIN AWESOME!!! Although the keypad could look better.
I'll use those textures for my project...
Well the keypad originally looked different in the first retexture but boingo wanted me to change the keys from more 3d looking to a more cartoonish style.
Mmm, Ok. So what would happen if I upload it into Legacy?
You mean in a wad file? It won't work because the doom color palette will discolor it.
I've tried your step Lucius,
(http://imageshack.us)How's that? Sorry, i chose a small patch to test it :-\
edit = I may not be very good. But i tried the Mini Zorcher

After you smooth it out you should try adding some details. Your good so far but they don't look finished. Right now they just look a little fuzzy.
Did you try clicking on them? To see them at full view?
[img=http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/5523/pisga0xr2.th.png] (http://img187.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pisga0xr2.png) Hows this? I think most of the fuzz is from image shack
The image is sorta blurry, and I second Lucius's notion. Try smoothing out the edges and add some more detail and some shadowing.
Just sharpen the picture...other than that...did you stretch it out 2x, 4x, 8x, or 16x?
4X, The problem is i dont know how to get rid of the fuzzyness :-[
...Either manualy or there should be a sharpen button or brush
Use the polygonal lasso in photoshop to select certain areas and sharpen, shadow, and add little details
Actually, for a person who just started retexturing, thats not bad for a first try, replica!

Sorry for the crapy green and red lights. But i've made the thing using the sharpe tool :-\
You're getting there...
