Title: CQ3- Stuck on the Villa Chex level, unable to procrastinate
Post by: Firefly on October 14, 2008, 12:23:50 AM
Out of the kindness of your hearts, please help a poor n00b.  Chex Quest 3 (by Chukkers) is amazing!  Here I am playing it at 11pm when I should be doing homework, and then I get stuck.  Back to physics homework... not!

Early in the level, there's an open door switch.  When I activate it, seconds later it "locks" again with a beep, and the same two doors that I couldn't get through before are still locked.  I haven't had the opportunity to get any keys yet.  I feel that the switch should unlock the balcony door... what am I missing?  I thought maybe it was a bug, but I replayed the level up to that point and had the same problem...  (Just to clarify, I want to get to the area that I can see through the fences).

Thanks!
*sheepish grin*

Heh heh heh. Welcome!

First of all, if you haven't already, you need to get the latest version. In the Villa, the switch you mentioned opens a different door, but I forget exactly where it is. I haven't quite memorized it entirely. :D

You mean your at the balconey, go into your control panle in the options menu, and change your controls, choose the Jump, and put it on a certain button you want. Not just jump over the balconey.

As far as I know, replica is right. Set a jump button, and then hit the switch and to the ground. Some door should be open down there to get you further. When I get time (g2g athemoment), I'll check this...

But welcome! Welcome to the ChexQuestFanForums!

No, no, no. There is no need to jump anywhere in the entire game if you have the latest version!

Full Edit:

Ok, said switch for the door leading to the room before the balcony turned out to be timed...?  In a couple tries I was able to get there fast enough before it closed (and locked).  Problem solved!

Thanks for taking the time to help me out :)

Hiya...

Registered to ask about this exact same thing, and saw a topic already in existence - maybe I just have pathetic twitch reflexes, but I don't see how this is possible...I hit the switch, and by the time I've turned around to head for the exit of the room, it locks again. It's definitely the lastest version, so am I just too slow?

Do you have "always run" on? if not, then get it. it helps, so instead of focusing on shift key, you're always goin fasta.

else, do you use the mouse+wasd control scheme? It allows for easier turning, maybe shaving some time off your run.

Or use the map, hit the switch (keeping the map on the whole time) and immediately run backwards.

I'm sure I have the latist version and I do know that the switch turns back off well before you would be half way across the room.

I tried the jump key and the fly key.  Jump works sort of but still can't get beyond the window wall and fly doesn't work at all.

So I'm still stuck.  I will go back and triple check versions.

Any other suggestions?

To the left, there's a step that allows you to jump over.

I've actually finished it with a spoon before.  It requires skill, determination, speed, and a heavy finger on the SHIFT, strafe, forward, and back keys, but it is possible to hit it between its attacks.  You just have to get away ASAP and run around until it gives you another shot at it.

You cannot fly in CQ.  This is basically meant for swimming in deep water.

Don't wait for the switch to turn off.  Just make sure "always run" is ON and that you've zorched all the flemoids who would block your path.  It's really quite easy.

I'd try for it, but when I was against it, I pretty much just used the large zorcher and the phasing.  Lord Snotfolus, however, I just fired constant LAZ shots at.

I've gone through three levels with only 12% health before.

Yes, that's called being "very careful."  :D

Yeah, that's like, run past everything that doesn't shoot, and shotgun/rapid/phase everything that does as quickly as possible.

I did half of United Cereals on Gobs of God (Ultra-Violence) with the spoon one time... I camped out in a corner and hit them one by one. I started the level with 40 ammo on the phasing, 10 shots on the large, and about 15 shots on the small, and 14% health. I did pretty well for a while

I got pwned when I entered that one part with the two flying things, though   :(

The trick with the spoon/spork on enemies that have close range attacks only, is to go forward, and, while using the spoon, move backward. Repeat

The close rangers cannot efficiently attack a moving target, especially one that's moving backward

so keep moving!  :)

No.  I hate mice, especially in FPS's.  Yes, I just said that.

I can own many with my super Keyboard.  Seriously, I'm a Keyboard Mastah.
Title: Re: CQ3- Stuck on the Villa Chex level, unable to procrastinate
Post by: Atariangamer on January 07, 2009, 10:28:10 AM
in some FPS, you can do that. But in stuff like half life 2, its almost necessary for movement and precision aiming. yes, you can do look up and down with the keyboard (in some games), but that is SO inacurate. Unless I play on god mode, I get killed before I can snipe someone using keyboard aiming.

but the keyboard works for DooM and Quake (except the new ones)
and if were talking about classic doom and quake, I HATE MICE. cuz it either moved the person, or you had to hold a button to do it...><

That switch controls the door at the other end of the hallway, specificly the one you can't open.
If you run as fast as you can, you should make it.  Just be ready for flemoids on the other side. ;)

Please.  Jump ruins the gameplay.  It's unnecessary, and there's a reason why it's greyed out.  You can complete all 15 maps without jumping a single time.  Trust me.  And now just follow the directions matthias720 outlined.

Tsk...bunny hopping...my friend's so well known for hopping in Counter Strike that he's got his own hop named after him!

And I tried out "always mouseaim" in CQ...not bad, but I'm way better with a keyboard, except when using a railgun.  ;)

The thing about Villa Chex, is that you get to the part where ordinary games' levels would've ended, then you realize "oh crap there's more!"

Same thing with United Chex (subway ;D)- Way to go Chukker!

Especially on Super Slimy - if your heart isn't racing by level 2, you must be dead.

It's especially intense when you have the "fast flemoids" flag on. even worse when you only use the Bootspoon.

Have you actually beaten the game on SS only using the bootspoon?  :o

I usually use nothing less than the Rapid Zorcher on the bipedicus w/ armor. I can only imagine how much it must suck to dodge those nearly rapid fire simeballs flying at 100 mph while trying to get close enough to use the spoon.

BWAs aren't THAT bad.  Just use a little strafing and you're okay.  Up close, they use a close-range attack anyways (which still does the same amount of damage, I think).

Personally, I think Large Zorchers are fine to zorch BWAs.

Large Zorchers (Shotguns) are the best all around weapons. All common enemies go down with 10 shells MAX. less if you use a super, but we've yet to have such awesomeness grace an official CQ.

I would, but I can't get the alt key to work as a strafe key again (that is, when pressed left and right arrow keys become strafe left and strafe right)

that would be quite helpful

I came up with this one weapon, I think it would be cooler than the "super shotgun" all over again.

It still fires 2 LZ shots at a time, but it fires in 4 sets of two, then a long reload to put 8 cartridges back in (possibly stoppable, like if you needed two shots right away).

It rotates around, manually, somewhat like a bolt reload, the chamber would be moved forward and rotated 90 degrees revealing the next two cartridges

I know this makes no sense, but I'd rather like to make an auto-shotgun... maybe just as a cheat code weapon.

I was actually thinking something like this

One shot fired, Chexter's hand comes up and rotates the chamber

this keeps going...

When all four sets of two were used (and the handle is returned to the original position), the player would literally have to dump them out, like shake the gun and they all fall out

I'd like to use the Dual Neutron Distruptor sound from Blake Stone - Aliens of Gold for the firing sound, but I think Apogee still has a copyright on it

an automatic super large zorcher would pwn all! I can picture it now, Maximus turns around the corner, Chexter arms Automatic-Super-Large-Zorcher and fires. blamblamblam. the Maximus fades away without even knowing what the $*&t happened.  ;D I'm all for it.

Yeah, the beep just means the switch went back to the LOCKED position, but doesn't mean the thing is closed.

Hmm, well, make sure you've zorched all the Flemoids in the corridor before you hit the switch. Are you playing on Super Slimey?
