I guess it's that time again. Beta 21!

Last Level of Episode One E1M7 is Finished!
So yeah, I going to start Episode Two, for reals this time! :whale
Please comment after you get a chance to play it!
Pretty good! I did notice that I couldn't see the 3d water or slime effects. Are those OpenGL exclusive? Apart from that, there were a few teture errors, mainly around sloped parts of the map.
3D water and floors seem to only work with OpenGL, and as such, I believe I will have to postpone my playing of this update until I get my OpenGL fixed. :facepalm

Textures are hard to get aligned right on slopes.
Figures.
By the way, E1M7 is the most sadistic level ever to appear in a Chex Quest game. I just finally got through it without God mode.
EDIT: What do the Archy the Bomb things do? The last one at least seems to have a purpose, but the rest of them are just there.

They are just items you can find, they have no real purpose besides a extra challenge finding them all.
in "status of the lost quest" it should say beta 22 will have E2M1 done
-problem with the music: it just kept playing the intro music over and over, except when you win.
-grammar n***'ing: the end message says "flemiod" at least twice, and "themselfs" should be "themselves"
as for the actual level...OMGOMGOMG!!!! i tried it without god mode at first, but was slimed after the first two maximi, so i did it on god mode. that level is frikkin crazy!!

Mind you explain this more, I haven't seen anything wrong.

hm, thats weird. i tried it again today and it works fine.
So I haven't played TLQ since it was on Legacy because I've been getting errors. But it's working now and I LOVE what you've done with everything!! I'm only on on about the 4th or 5th level but it looks great and I am looking forward to the craziness on M7.
btw: is the "yellow flemkey" supposed to open up the green doors? 'cause it shows up as green on the HUD but it won't open up the green door for me. I think I'm in M5 but idk. It's the first level where you find the flemkey.

Use the chex.wad as the IWAD not chex3.wad please.
Complete playthrough, I think... I didn't find any bonus levels.
I like it :whale
There were a couple weird parts, and the last two levels didn't do it for me (too repetitive on the green textures... I know it's the sewer, but still, green blocks get kind of old). The very end of E1M7 was cool.
Arch, can you even beat E1M7? I've done some crazy things in doom, but for nearly the whole time in E1M7 I had Davidbrus on.... I'd put some health in that elevator, at least.
I had it on at the end because I'm no good at dodging homing projectiles
There's a couple bugs, but you change so much each beta, they're probably not worth mentioning.
You know your doors close really fast?
Also, your levels are really long, which I like, but the music sometimes got old for me... Red Storage particularly.
Where do you get your music from, anyway?

I know, I wish I could make my own music, but I can't make a song to save my life. ><
I get my music from VGMusic.

I WAS going to add some pipes on the walls of some of those levels, but apparently I forgot... <<

I have beaten it multiple times, maybe I should do a Youtube video.
Anyways I'm glad you enjoyed it! :whale
I found some music for you, let me know what you think

Changes - E1M4 (not a great match, I'm still thinking about it), E1M6, E1M7 (might be a bit too loud, but it's fun at least)
and instead of silence for the area before the boss in E1M7, what if you used something sort of like what plays in yoshi's island when you're walking to the boss, you know what I mean?
E1M6 might be too heavy for your wad, but I'm not sure. I think it's a good fit because it's starting to get difficult at that point, but then again, it's pretty hardcore for CQ.
EDIT -
I found one song for E1M4 that fits well, but it's way too fast. It fits excellently, but it'll give the player a heart attack, and I don't think E1M4 is a cardiac arrest friendly level. XD

E1M4 and E1M6 doesn't fit that well, I like E1M7 music a lot but it doesn't match the feel I'm trying to get, I might use it in episode 2. Do you mind just giving me the new E1M4 and the E1M7 midi?
E1M4 and E1M7 isn't a midi, even though E1M7 really sounds like it. If E1M7 was originally a midi, I don't have it, it's somebody's remix of a song from Mega Man X3.
you can do Entry>save as in XWE to get it, just rename the .lmp file

Nah I mean the new E1M4 you where talking about.
I was going to suggest D_COUNT from Slimeinator's IWAD
I don't have any other map-specific recommendations, but I think you'll like these
http://www.mediafire.com/?fd2zzntndyi
D_DMSEC is from Skulltag, D_FTMUS is from Alpha-Delta invasion, and STAIRS is from ROTT.
I'll let you know if I find anything else =)
EDIT
What do you think of the pinball fantasies remix on this website?
http://byproduct.koshiyoka.com/
It sounds a bit like D_E1M5, and it's a good song, so I thought I'd run it by you, but then again, it's kind of outer-spacey.
Thanks for the links!
The E1M6 recommendation was from my inspiration. I heard this song and thought it could make a great sewer level song. I'm making a level for it as we speak :)
Is it ok if I use your sewer door textures?

Sure, go ahead! ;D
Re: Is E1M7 possible.
Yes, I got through it without dying after about fifty tries on Extreme Ooze (my difficulty of choice). The best advice I can give you is, use the Large Zorcher and variants during the first few waves, then switch to the LAZ about the time that the Minunus(sp?) start showing up. Shoot them with the LAZ, preferably around the middle of the elevator (BTW, all this time you are running like crazy using every evasive maneuver known to man, never in a straight line, it doesn't work. Trust me.)
If you run out of LAZ, the Propulsor works OK, but you need several direct hits to get rid of Maximi. it's best to just clear your immediate area at this point, and run to the exit as soon as it appears, using the door as a bottleneck to eviscerate the rest of them (You might want to pick up the SuperCharge in the area first.)
Ammo, ammo, ammo...
The final boss is a fun one. A direct hit with any of those things will kill you, and will likely result in a Gib scream after fifteen more add insult to injury. Backpedal while strafing one way, switch directions, try to avoid hitting the pillars scattered around the room, while still firing rockets with high accuracy every time the option is available. At some point after the first five seconds of backpedaling, you should see a definite opening in the projectiles, at least if you switched directions right. Hope you learned a lesson from Touhou, because we're running through that gap. Keep firing, point blank if you happen to have the opportunity in our crazy kamikaze attack, and repeat, forever hoping that the pillars will stay away.
The end.
That's at least how I did it. Another good idea is to save after every successful wave on the elevator, likewise on every successful pattern vs the Final Boss (one!one). Don't ask me how, just do it.
With the final boss I use the pillars to get rid of the bullets by hiding behind them.
Final boos, we have a Mario cameo. :D
Seriously, though, they always seemed to find some way around the pillars. One way or another, one mistake is it. You can get hit with the splash damage w/o dying, but that's it.

Try using the stairs, lead the bullets to it, climb up, then be on the other side of pillars.
Well, I just discovered that the reason that I couldn't play with OpenGL was because it hadn't been installed. Go figure. Going back thru now that I can do it right.
imo the e1m6 music is fitting, and i like it the way it is. lends a creepy feel to the level.
