Ok I have a big problem
Well, since you have Vista, I don't think there's much you can to to run Chex Quest in its original version, unless you could get it running through DOSBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net).
I recommend downloading The Ultimate Chex Quest (http://www.doomlegends.com/chexquest/) instead.
So do i dl this and start playing or is there other stuff i need to dl 1st ..well i will dl it and tell you the results.

It's impossible to run a playable, original Chex Quest natively in any Windows newer than 98. You have to download a program called DOSBox. Unfortunately, it isn't something I would consider simple. Boingo the Clown (a member here) is making an improved version of Chex Quest that runs perfect in XP/Vista.

Oh guys one more thing ...When i get in CQ , i change all the settings to my liking then when i leave and come back all my settings are default and my previous game is gone that i saved... how can i fix this

Hi and no i dont share my com ...so how do i run as admin
Right click and go to properties... then go the click on compadability tab (pardon my spelling...) run it in your favored windows settings, then click run as admin checkbox then ok... You should see a little colored shield on your icon... the click and launch...

Anyway, are you still running the SciFience version? If you are, nobody knows why, but you cannot reach the fifth level (The Caverns of Bazoik.)

To keep things simple:
Go here (http://www.doomlegends.com/chexquest/downloadnf.html) and download "TUCQp2b3_Full_Setup.zip". It sounds to me like you, indeed, have the rotten scifience version of Chex Quest found here (http://www.tucows.com/preview/319445).
No i downloaded from that link ...the TUCQ full setup and all i do is push the launcher app ...just the 2 probs are that past lev 4 and stuff wont permently save
actually, in legacy, if you use just the wrong thing...it doesn't work. I suggest getting the full setup of TUCQ off of Boingo's site. Its already working, and it plays the same (if not better).

!!! Wait! I didnt see the ones from you and Manny Cav. Here's what you do:
From the folder where you have TUCQ unzipped, there should be two .BAT files. Click one of these and TUCQ should play. If not, click the launcher, then click "Single map". Uh...Then go to where it says addons or PWADs or something and click the check box. Click the little 3 dots next to the line and select "CQUESTP2B3.wad" from the list. Set your settings and start it FROM THAT BOX. I think what you were doing was clicking 'Launch'. That launches chex.wad with no corrections. It usually gives you 'Signal handler' errors when trying it like that.

Try clicking on that button and see if you can change it in there...
i tried everything and i cant get the box lit back up
oh and thanks atariangamer for helping me out ..it worked i can play all the levs

oh yea the saving issue ...i will go in and play and save all my stuff all my settings ...then i get out and go back in its all gone :-\
oh. Thats a config error. Its kinda tricky to set one up...but I've had the same problem. Only problem is...I don't know what fixes it! Mebe xbolt could help us...he's really good in legacy
I don't think you can fix that. Just to run the orginal wad by clicking legacy.exe. unill theirs a GZdoom release.
O_o That was even more confusing. By running the plain chex.wad, he can't save settings. By running TUCQ the right way, he can't save settings. Then you just told him to run plain chex.wad (what happens when you click legacy.exe). and that patch I posted in TUCQ forum kinda works...

mebe vista bug. prolly vista bug. Infact, I don't even think Legacy was designed for vista. Not even a tech demo was out when this latest Legacy was released...

IDK, Dvader did you ever have a vista error in legacy? I haven't, but it could be because I might have a differant type of computer.
Well, there's Home, Ultimate, and something else versions of Vista. IDK, mebe there is subtle differences.
Nope never did... It worked as well as my other computers did...
Same here, I run Windows Vista: Home Basic and Legacy required absolutely no tweaking, it worked perfectly from the beginning.
So, I dont think its just Legacy. Try redownloading it.
