Title: Error when starting level 5
Post by: Axenet on June 16, 2011, 10:15:03 PM
I just found out that there was more to this game than the original. I found the combo download of Chexquest 1 & 2 and installed it. Quite impressive. However in the first game when I finish level 4 and try to move on to level 5, I get this error, signal_handler() : segment violation and the window title is Doom Legacy error.

Any way to get past this? I did see a post I found by Googling by someone who said he had the same problem though he could get past it by warping directly to level 5. I have no idea how to do this warping. I tried Googling that and only found discussion of it, not how to do it.

I'd really like to find out how resolve the error but if I can't do that then I'd like to find out how to warp to level 5 so I could keep playing.

Are you trying to run TUCQ (The Ultimate Chex Quest) or Chex Quest 3?

I would say neither. I found the combined 1 & 2 at Tucows. I didn't see any mention of TUCQ and it's not 3, it's just 1 & 2. When I installed it, it created a folder in Program Files named SciFienceStudios which I understand is who created this version. That's as much as I can tell you in answer to your question. If it is considered TUCQ, then I see no mention of it anywhere.

You have stumbled upon the bootleg version that Boingo mentioned on his website!  http://www.doomlegends.com/chexquest/tucq.html#why

Could I get a link to that? I'm surprised it still exists.

EDIT - I found it http://www.tucows.com/preview/319445

That is a piece of Chex Quest history. It was so bad, it inspired Boingo to make his mod, TUCQ. TUCQ brought this entire fan base together!

Anyway... Don't use that junk.

You have two options, TUCQ, or Chex Quest 3, if you want an enhanced version of Chex Quest.

You can get Chex Quest 3 here: http://www.chucktropolis.com/downloads/ChexQuest3.zip

You can get The Ultimate Chex Quest here: http://www.doomlegends.com/chexquest/frames.html

Go to the downloads section (link on the left part of the page)

If you haven't used Doom Legacy before, go with the full installation version.

Get Chex Quest 3 for starters, then later you could try TUCQ.

Yeah, you have the worst version of CQ in history.

Get Chex Quest 3 (http://www.chucktropolis.com/downloads/ChexQuest3.zip) and try it out. Its alot more advanced and more compatible with modern systems than TUCQ (and Legacy, the engine behind both Scifience and TUCQ), and contains not only a clean combination of Chex Quest 1 and 2, but contains a third completely new episode with new art and enemies from the game's original artist.

Download and enjoy, my friend.
